I began this series of zodiac animals in the Year of the Tiger to celebrate the Lunar New Year. These paintings are created in the spirit of ‘fai chun’ - a new year tradition of writing auspicious phrases in calligraphy on red xuan paper. Thought I don’t consider myself a calligraphy artist, these simple and immediate drawings were my way of expressing well wishes and good fortune for the year in the unique manner of each animal.
